# Using venv

{% embed url="<https://docs.python.org/3/library/venv.html>" %}

Virtual environments (venv) are self-contained directories that contain a Python installation for a particular version of Python, plus a number of additional packages.

## Creating a virtual environment

{% hint style="info" %}
This method will inherit the surrounding dbt virtual environment, including all dbt packages.
{% endhint %}

To create a virtual environment in Paradime IDE:

1. Open the terminal in the Paradime Code IDE.
2. Navigate to your project directory.
3. Run the following command:

```bash
python -m venv my_venv
```

This creates a new virtual environment named `my_venv` in your current directory.

## Activating the virtual environment

To activate a [virtual environment](#creating-a-standard-virtual-environment), run:

```bash
source my_venv/bin/activate
```

## Deactivating a virtual environment

To exit the virtual environment, simply run:

```bash
deactivate
```

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.paradime.io/app-help/developers-old/virtual-environments/using-venv.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
