# One-click Git Lite branches and a faster Code IDE start-up

> Git Lite has a New branch button and a Create branch shortcut on the default branch, and the Code IDE reloads less and starts faster.

*October 29, 2026*

Creating a branch in [Git Lite](https://docs.paradime.io/products/code-ide/version-control/git-lite.md) used to mean typing a name that didn't exist into the branch picker. Now it's a button.

* **+ New branch** sits next to the **Branch** label above the picker.
* The picker's dropdown ends with a pinned **New branch** row. Type a name and it reads **Create branch "name"**.
* On the read-only default branch, the empty state has a **Create branch** button.

See [Git Lite](https://docs.paradime.io/guides/working-with-git/git-lite.md).

The Code IDE also starts faster and reloads less:

* A dropped connection no longer reloads the editor in a tab you aren't looking at. It waits until you come back, and short drops reconnect without a reload.
* Your editor layout is saved when you switch tabs.
* Git Lite polls once per browser tab and pauses while the tab is hidden. This fixes `cannot lock ref` and `ambiguous argument` errors on branches you haven't pushed yet.

Shipped in Paradime v6.21.0 and v6.22.0.
