# GitLab MR Management Tool

> The GitLab MR Management Tool lets DinoAI open, read, list, and comment on GitLab merge requests as you, including diffs, pipeline status, and review threads.

Available in

— Agent

· Backed by [GitLab](https://docs.paradime.io/integrations/gitlab) integration

The GitLab MR Management Tool lets DinoAI work with merge requests from the Paradime Code IDE. DinoAI can open a merge request, read its diff, pipeline status, and threads, list merge requests, and comment on them. It does all of this with your own GitLab account, so GitLab shows you as the author.

> [!NOTE]
>
> These merge request tools are available in **Copilot**. Standalone agents (Slack Bot, Programmable, Bolt Pipeline) work with GitLab through the `glab` CLI in the [Terminal Tool](https://docs.paradime.io/products/dino-ai/tools-and-features/terminal-tool.md) instead. See [DinoAI agents on GitLab](https://docs.paradime.io/integrations/gitlab/connect-a-repository.md).

## Before you start

* Your workspace's repository is a project on a [GitLab connection](https://docs.paradime.io/integrations/gitlab). The tool uses the workspace's project. You don't choose the project in the prompt.
* You [linked your GitLab account](https://docs.paradime.io/integrations/gitlab/connect-a-repository.md) in **Settings > Integrations > Personal**. If you didn't, every action answers with a link to connect your account. If GitLab revoked your token, DinoAI asks you to link the account again.

The tool doesn't approve or merge merge requests.

## Capabilities

Each action asks for your approval before it runs, by default. You can change this in [DinoAI settings](https://docs.paradime.io/products/dino-ai/copilot/dinoai-settings.md).

### `create_merge_request`

Opens a merge request from a branch in the workspace's project.

* Takes a title, a description (Markdown), and the source branch.
* The target branch is the project's default branch, unless you name another one.
* For a draft, DinoAI adds `Draft:` to the title.

### `read_merge_request`

Reads one merge request by its number, for example `42` for `!42`. It can get:

* **Details:** the title, state, branches, and merge status.
* **Code diff:** every changed file.
* **CI status:** the pipeline and commit statuses of the latest commit, Paradime Turbo CI included.
* **Discussions:** every comment and review thread, with the file and line of inline comments and whether each thread is resolved.

### `list_merge_requests`

Lists merge requests in the workspace's project.

* Filter by state (`opened`, `merged`, `closed`, or `all`), target branch, or source branch.
* Sort by created or updated date, newest or oldest first.
* Up to 100 results per page.

### `add_merge_request_note`

Posts a comment on a merge request's conversation, as you. The comment is published at once.

## Example prompts

**Open a draft merge request**

```
Open a draft merge request from feature/add-orders into main titled "Add orders model".
```

DinoAI asks for approval, then opens the merge request with `Draft:` in its title and returns its link.

**Catch up on review feedback**

```
Summarise the comments on !42 and tell me which threads are still unresolved.
```

DinoAI reads the merge request's discussions and lists the open threads with their files and lines.

**Check the pipeline**

```
What's the CI status of !42?
```

DinoAI reads the statuses on the latest commit, for example `Paradime Turbo CI` and each Turbo CI schedule.

**Find work in flight**

```
List the open merge requests that target main, newest first.
```

## Working with other tools

* Use [Git Lite](https://docs.paradime.io/products/code-ide/version-control/git-lite.md) to commit and push before you open a merge request. **Create PR with DinoAI** in Git Lite opens the merge request for you.
* Use the [Terminal Tool](https://docs.paradime.io/products/dino-ai/tools-and-features/terminal-tool.md) to run dbt™ commands before you open a merge request.
* Use the [Jira](https://docs.paradime.io/products/dino-ai/tools-and-features/jira-tool.md) or [Linear](https://docs.paradime.io/products/dino-ai/tools-and-features/linear-tool.md) tool to put the issue key in the title or description.

On GitHub, use the [GitHub PR Management Tool](https://docs.paradime.io/products/dino-ai/tools-and-features/github-pr-management-tool.md) instead.
