Schedule types and triggers

Bolt gives you a few schedule types and triggers so jobs run when you need them and as efficiently as possible. This guide explains each and when to reach for it.

Prerequisites

Access to Bolt in your Paradime workspace.
A scheduler connection to your warehouse.

Schedule types

Type	Description	Best for
Standard	Runs your dbt™ job directly in the production environment	Regular production runs, daily or hourly updates
Deferred	Runs in a separate environment before merging changes to production	Testing changes before deploying, CI/CD workflows
Turbo CI	Rapid, incremental runs of only the changed models	Fast feedback on model changes, efficient CI

Schedule triggers

Trigger	What it does	Best for
Scheduled run	Runs at set times using cron syntax	Regular, time-based execution (daily reports, weekly updates)
On run completion	Starts after a chosen parent job finishes	Dependencies between jobs (a summary job after individual updates)
On merge	Runs when a pull request merges into a branch	Continuous deployment; updating the pipeline with code changes
Bolt API	Triggers jobs programmatically	Integrating Bolt with external systems or custom pipelines

Schedule statuses

Status	Meaning
✅ Success	Completed successfully
🚫 Canceled	Manually canceled or stopped before completion
❌ Error	Hit an error during execution (the run “failed”)
⏸️ Paused	Temporarily paused
🕐 No runs	Has not executed yet, or is not configured to

Pick a type and trigger that match your job: Standard on a cron for regular runs, On merge for continuous deployment, Turbo CI for pull requests.
